Between Science and Myth

Science is the human activity that aims to search and investigate using all means to reach the truth and prove it. It is one of the oldest human activities that aimed to break the ignorance about the secrets of the universe and its components.

The tools of science have evolved over time and moved from simple sensory observation to experimentation and analysis. Humans have relied on technology today to support scientific progress.

Scientific progress is cumulative, as each scientist adds their knowledge achievements to the scientific structure, enabling science to continue to advance towards more knowledge.

In this scientifically advanced age, some superstitious ideas or practices still manifest themselves in the minds of society. Superstition is a belief or idea based on mere imagination without a mental or logical reason based on science and knowledge. Superstitions are related to the folklore of people, where superstition usually represents a historical legacy that generations pass on. It is an irrational belief or practice. Superstitions may be religious, cultural, social, or personal.

Many superstitions spread in our modern era, such as cultural superstitions, caused by the cultural deposits of myths, where myths used to form the dominant interpretation of the universe in ancient civilizations.

Examples of cultural myths include the myths of the ancient Pharaohs about their gods (the Nile God, the God of fertility, etc.), the legend of Gilgamesh in Iraq, and the myths of ancient Greeks. These myths aim to provide a complete understanding of the creation and meaning of the universe.

There are also religious superstitions, such as some illogical practices in some religions and mentally corrupt beliefs.

Social superstitions also exist, such as the superstition of the number 13 in Europe and the superstition of ghouls, ghosts, and terrifying spirits.

As prevalent in society are some scientific superstitions, the most important of which is the belief in a flat earth, a leading superstition worldwide that the shape of the earth is flat.

There are many superstitions and delusions that inhabit human societies and communities, old and new, ingrained and emerging.

Therefore, the human mind must be armed with the weapon of logic, which compares between things and deduces from them until the mind and sound thinking are reached.

Knowledge, reason, and logic are a tribute to humanity so that they can dig a grave for ignorance and strive to pursue the path of truth in uncovering the mysteries of this universe full of secrets and mysteries. And to enable them first to know themselves and their abilities.
